The 2012 NFL regular season has come to a close, but that doesn’t mean the fantasy football season has come to an end! Not even close! Here’s a look at how my roster shaped up for DraftDay’s Wild Card Weekend Freeroll.
This site uses a $100,000 salary cap and the roster consists of 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 3 FLEX, and 1 DST. The site gives 1 full point per reception, and it is the only site we played at this year that gives six points per touchdown pass, so quarterbacks are more valuable than usual.
Let’s do this!
QB – Aaron Rodgers, GBY ($25,000) In a pair of meetings with the Vikings this season, Mr. discount Double Check threw for a combined 651 yards and a TD/INT ratio of 5:1. Coach McCarthy and Rodgers have begged for the Vikings to continue their blitzing onslaught for the third go round; Minny will be happy to oblige knowing full well they’ll get picked apart if they don’t. I think they get dissected either way!
RB – Adrian Peterson, MIN ($23,300) It pains me to use nearly half my salary cap on only two players, but I simply can’t pass up the opportunity to run with “All Day” in his third crack at the Packers rush defense. He ran through that porous unit for a grand total of 409 yards and averaged nearly eight yards per carry while doing so; the three overall TDs were just added gravy. If Minnesota is to hang on the frozen tundra Saturday night, AP will be the main reason why.

WR – Randall Cobb, GBY ($13,950) With Rodgers leading my team’s charge, it only makes perfect sense to snag one of his many skilled pass catchers. Due to Randall sitting out last week and coming into this match-up questionable with an ankle injury, I’m getting a reduced price. Don’t let the injury sway you however, he’s ready to go and will be matched up mostly with whatever tomato can is assigned in defending the slot receiver; big night in store for his playoff debut!
FLEX – Alfred Morris, WSH ($18,250) ALF has been a mainstay on my roster with every passing week of the regular season, and now that its title time, do you really think I’d sit him out? While his price tag has been wiped away of all value, he’s still one of the key contributors to what the Skins do offensively, and with RG3 likely having trouble dissecting the Seahawks nasty pass defense, his success will play a huge role as to whether Washington can protect its house. I’m willing to take the gamble.
FLEX – Dennis Pitta, BAL ($10,450) Don’t let the Colts ChuckStrong story fool you; it’s a flawed football team. Ray Rice is going to tear Indy’s 29th ranked rush defense apart, and once it decides to put more defenders in the box, it will allow create wide open passing lanes for the Baltimore receivers to take advantage of. Look for Pitta to do just that!
FLEX – Garrett Graham, HOU ($4,000) I’m taking a major role of the dice here, but due to stocking up at the other positions, I really don’t have much of a choice. Owen Daniels has not been healthy for the last six weeks, and the Texans offense has struggled because of it. However, Graham could potentially fill his role here as a solid underneath option for Schaub who will certainly be under loads of pressure from the Bengals ferocious defensive front all game long. Here’s to hoping he connects with Graham on a blitz that could possibly propel him into the end zone.
DST – Washington Redskins ($4,000) Anytime you have a rookie quarterback going in the playoffs, you really can’t go wrong in backing the opposing defense looking to shut him down. The Redskins just so happen to enter the second season on fire having won each of their L/7 games after coming out on top of Week 17’s do or die match-up for NFC East supremacy with the Dallas Cowboys. Washington has only given up an average of 17 PPG at home since their Week 10 bye, and the unit just so happens to excel in stopping the run (#5 at 95.8 YPG). If Wilson is able to slice and dice their porous pass defense in his first ever playoff start on the road, so be it. Another gamble I’m more than willing to take.
